Type “flower shop Warsaw” into a search box and you get bouquets from every season at once; a florist’s year does not look like that. Tulips arrive by the crate in late winter, peonies have a season measured in weeks, dahlias belong to September, chrysanthemums mean one date in Poland. Knowing the calendar makes ordering easier: you ask for what is at its best, the bouquet lasts longer, the price is steadier because nobody had to fly the stems in. This guide follows the year from the perspective of IFIORA, an independent florist with a studio in Mokotów that delivers only within Warsaw.
The rules that stay the same in every season:
- Delivery within Warsaw: 3–4 hours from order acceptance (after payment), every district – 29 zł below 500 zł, free from 500 zł; express within 2 hours 50 zł, after prior confirmation.
- Same-day only if paid before 16:00 Warsaw time and confirmed by the studio; never automatic.
- Monday to Saturday; no Sunday delivery; public holidays confirmed individually.
- Card and standard wrapping free; chocolates and balloons paid; 7-day freshness guarantee with the care instructions followed.
Flower shop Warsaw calendar: świeże kwiaty and what “in season” means
“Świeże kwiaty” – fresh flowers – is the promise on every Polish florist page, and seasonality is the simplest way to test it. A flower in season has travelled less, arrived in quantity, opens at the pace it was bred for; an out-of-season stem has been forced or imported, which shows in the price and the vase life. Warsaw shops emphasise freshness from local growers for exactly this reason.
January and February: hyacinths, the first tulips, amaryllis
The year opens with forced bulbs: hyacinths for scent, the first tulips, amaryllis with a single stem that reads as a whole bouquet. Roses carry the gift orders – Valentine’s Day on 14 February is the first peak – but for something less predictable ask for ranunculus, which appears in February.
March and April: tulips by the armful, ranunculus, Easter
March is tulip month in Poland; on 8 March, Women’s Day, they go to offices across the city, so order two days ahead. Ranunculus is at its best, layered like a small peony. April belongs to Easter: pastel tulips, willow catkins, moss. IFIORA’s range includes seasonal Easter bouquets; delivery on a public holiday is confirmed individually, so please write before you pay.
May and June: peonies – the shortest season, the most requested
Peonies reach Warsaw florists in May, peak around Mother’s Day (26 May in Poland, a fixed date) and are gone by the end of June. They give three to five perfect days, so a peony bouquet is a gift for now; if the flowers have to last, mix them with lisianthus or roses. In this season “what came in this week” matters more than the catalogue – ask the studio by email or WhatsApp.
July and August: hydrangeas, lisianthus, sunflowers
Hydrangeas drink a lot, so the recipient should top up the vase daily in a heatwave. Lisianthus is the quiet workhorse: ten days in water. Sunflowers suit a thank you bouquet for a host. In heat, a flower box or basket is the safer format if the recipient may be out, because the stems sit in soaked foam rather than waiting dry in a hallway.
September and October: dahlias and the autumn palette
Dahlias are the reason to send flowers in September: burgundy, coral, café-au-lait, heads the size of a saucer. They are fragile in transport, so a short window within the city keeps them intact. By late October the palette turns to rust, plum, dried grasses; eco bouquets in paper suit the mood.
November: Chrysanthemums have one meaning in Poland
Around 1 November, All Saints’ Day, every stall near a cemetery sells chrysanthemums, and the association is permanent: in Poland they are grave flowers, not a birthday gift. Funeral sprays and wreaths are in IFIORA’s range, arranged by contacting the studio so that place and hour can be agreed with the funeral home. For a November birthday choose roses, anemones or the last dahlias.
December – and roses all year round
December is an arrangement month: amaryllis, ilex with red berries, fir, eucalyptus, candles. Christmas arrangements are part of the range; company orders are arranged by contacting the studio early in the month. Roses are the exception to the calendar – available every month, as a bouquet, in a box or by the stem; what changes is the variety and head size (luxury flowers are the larger-headed, rarer varieties). Browse roses Warsaw for the current selection.
Sizes S, M, L – why the stem decides how a size looks
A size changes the number of stems and the volume, never the quality. What the calendar adds is scale: an S of peonies looks generous because each head is large, while an S of tulips is a delicate posy. If unsure, describe the effect in the comment – custom bouquets are possible. Every bouquet is made to order after payment from natural, seasonal flowers, so a photo taken in May cannot promise the same peony in August: style and colour hold, the exact varieties follow what is fresh that day.
Delivery na terenie Warszawy in every season
“Dostawa na terenie Warszawy” – delivery within Warsaw – covers all 18 districts on identical terms: Mokotów, Ursynów, Wilanów, Śródmieście, Wola, Ochota, Żoliborz, Bielany, Bemowo, Białołęka, Targówek, Praga-Północ, Praga-Południe, Wawer, Rembertów, Wesoła, Ursus, Włochy. The studio’s own courier calls the recipient to agree the hand-over; if nobody is home, a new time is agreed. Nothing goes outside the city limits, nothing is forwarded to another shop. Same-day is possible only if the order is paid before 16:00 and the studio confirms capacity.
Thank you, birthdays, anniversaries: choosing by season instead of by habit
Most occasions have a default flower; the calendar offers a better one. A thank you bouquet for a colleague in March can be tulips; a June anniversary garden roses with peonies rather than twelve red ones; a September birthday dahlias. For a gift that has to last a week, lisianthus, carnations or alstroemeria outlast almost everything else.
The Warsaw market through the year
Warsaw has a rich floral scene: many styles, modern techniques, growing eco-friendly floristry, freshness from local growers, bouquets made from seasonal fresh flowers, flower boxes as modern arrangements in elegant boxes, compositions in baskets sometimes with an extra gift, routine delivery to offices or hotels, well-rated shops that combine a physical workshop with e-commerce, wedding floristry, event decoration.
Birthday bouquets are the most popular gift, roses go out on Women’s Day, tulips symbolise spring and happiness, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day or apologies fill the weeks between; market-wide delivery takes 1–4 hours (typically 3–4), covers all districts, costs from 29 zł, some shops accept same-day orders until 18:00, flowers arrive in aesthetic packaging with a card; funeral wreaths and condolence flowers are elegant, subdued, chosen to the family’s preferences.
IFIORA’s own range covers hand-tied bouquets, mono and eco bouquets, flower boxes, baskets, roses, cut flowers by the stem, luxury flowers, potted plants, funeral sprays and wreaths, seasonal Easter bouquets and Christmas arrangements, plus flowers and decorations for offices, hotels, restaurants and events; customer service is in Polish, English and Russian.
Polish words on a seasonal flower page
“Kwiaty” – flowers; “bukiet” – bouquet; “zamówienie” – order; “dostawa” – delivery; “w ofercie” – in the range; “w Warszawie” – in Warsaw; “na każdą okazję” – for every occasion, also seen as “okazji”; “dbamy o świeżość” – we look after freshness; “styl” – style; “czas realizacji” – time to prepare; “kontakt” – contact; “dzięki” – thanks; shops post the week’s flowers “na Instagramie” – on Instagram. IFIORA’s site has an English version, so the dictionary is only for comparing other shops.
